Home Learning

We have recently updated our Home Learning policy and wanted to share our approach with parents. Home learning gives children the opportunity to share their learning experiences with their parents and carers, for the children to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and to extend and develop the work undertaken in school.

The main focus of our home learning is fundamental English and mathematics with occasional tasks to extend and enhance learning from other subjects across the curriculum. We have prioritised reading as a key activity for each year group as it is important for our children to develop as fluent and proficient readers.

The timings given below are a guideline and include time that you may spend with you reading to your child and discussing the text, developing their understanding of what they have read by asking questions as well as them practising to read the book we have sent home.

Weekly Expectations

  • 5 x per week to an adult or independently
  • Times Tables Rockstars – practice assigned times tables at least 3 x per week
  • Spelling Shed – practice assigned words using the games at least 3 x per week

Other Expectations

  • Throughout the year, teachers may ask children to complete additional topic based learning to support their work in school. Expectations of this additional home learning will be shared with parents as appropriate
  • Parents may wish to explore other learning opportunities with their children at home. The curriculum for each year group outlines the expectations of content on a term-by-term basis and parents are welcome to use this to guide any additional learning at home.

Remote Learning

Should children be unable to access school (due to full or partial-closure), children will be able to access learning remotely through Times Tables Rockstars and Spelling Shed. If absence from school is prolonged, the school will provide information about additional learning activities seperately.
